The Cage has a lead-lift effect. When retrieving a Cage-n-Weight from an 80 yard cast into water about 20 feet deep, it will come to the surface after approximately 45 yards. This is an obvious bonus when you are fishing with rough ground in front of you.

If you are fishing onto rough-ish ground you will reduce tackle losses significantly by using the Cage-n-Weight. When starting to retrieve it is best to point your rod down towards where your trace lies, tighten up and lift the rod quickly to the vertical. While doing this, start winding in as fast as possible. The Cage-n-Weight will lift a few feet above the seabed immediately and will usually stay well clear of obstructions if you keep winding at a steady rate. Using a large fixed spool reel will help significantly.
